Precision Treatment for Superior Results
Laser Vision Correction Houston
Surgical lasers allow us to operate on your eye with unparalleled precision, affording you the benefits of both improved results and a higher level of safety and control. With laser vision correction, our Houston, Texas eye care center can treat the source of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism - irregular corneal curvature - rather than simply the symptoms as eye glasses do. As every patient is unique and his or her needs different, we offer a range of laser vision correction procedures. During a personal consultation with our team of eye care specialists - led by Dr. Andrew Watkins - we can discuss your goals, diagnose your condition, and recommend an effective course of treatment. To learn whether you are a good candidate for laser vision correction, contact our Houston eye care center today.
LASIK Surgery
The most popular type of refractive surgery in the world, LASIK is an effective, proven treatment that can greatly improve a person's vision. During the LASIK procedure, a small flap is created in the outer cornea, either with a minute surgical blade or a laser, so that an excimer laser can be directed at the underlying stromal tissue. Irregularities eye length or a misshapen cornea can alter the focus of incoming light onto the retina, resulting in vision impairment. With LASIK surgery, these length of eye errors and corneal errors can be corrected.
iLASIK Surgery
The iLASIK procedure is similar to standard LASIK surgery; however, the process is designed to provide an even greater level of precision and control. Utilizing the WaveFront™ system and VISX STAR S4 IR™ excimer laser with iris registration, iLASIK allows us to precisely measure the imperfections of the visual system of the eye and center the laser with increased accuracy over the treatment area. This process, known as the Advanced CustomVue treatment, improves on LASIK in various ways - the treatment provides all bladeless laser vision correction, for example - to help ensure positive results.
IntraLase®
The IntraLase® laser allows for bladeless laser vision correction, and is an integral element of iLASIK surgery. Though a microkeratome is an effective tool for the creation of a corneal flap, it can't match the level of precision that is possible with the IntraLase® laser. This tool is so precise, in fact, that NASA has approved advanced iLASIK treatment for its astronauts. Complications are greatly reduced over procedures performed with a microkeratome, and it's widely preferred by patients.
