The Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) will assist in performing diagnostic testing of the patient including preliminary visual assessment, recording of visual acuity, tonometry, auto refraction, ocular motility, pupil assessment, manual refraction, and visual field testing while complying with privacy, state and federal regulations. Patient care and quality of care is a priority. Patient communication including patient instructions, telephone messages and triage is expected to be provided in a mature, warm, friendly, calm and professional demeanor.

The Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) may also be involved in the training and guidance of personnel, and therefore must have a strong sense of urgency and leadership skills.

We are looking for highly motivated and responsible individuals with good technical and interpersonal skills to work in a busy, team centered environment.

Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of ophthalmic experience required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain patient history in a proficient manner.
  • Proficiency in manifest refractions and all components of ophthalmic work-up.
  • Administer topical medications as directed.
  • Experience with HVF, OCT, Fundus camera and other diagnostic equipment
  • Strong sense of urgency and special attention to detail.
  • Alert to situations needing immediate nursing or physician attention.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communications among staff.
  • Knowledge of and proficient use of computers.
  • Bilingual a-plus (but not required)
  • Experience with EHR a-plus (but not required)
