As part of our commitment to patients and the latest in advanced eye care, the team at Watkins Eye Center uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure the best vision of each patient. This really means addressing the individual needs and problems that each person faced. When you visit our Houston eye surgery center, we will be sure to tailor your surgery to your eyes as precisely as possible.

About LASIK Surgery

LASIK surgery is a refractive surgery procedure that has become very popular over the years. During LASIK, the cornea of the eye is reshaped shaped so that light passing into the eye is properly reflected on the retina. This ensure sharper, clearer vision for people facing refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism).

Custom LASIK

In order to ensure that a person receives the best laser vision correction possible, it is important that the surgery is customized. Custom LASIK means being able to identify the exact problems with the cornea and address those issues properly. The technology to do this has made major strides over the last few years.

About WaveFront&™ LASIK Technology

That’s where WaveFront&™ technology comes in. Using WaveFront&™, Houston ophthalmologist Dr. Andrew Watkins is able to get a precise picture of what needs to be done.

How WaveFront&™ Works

WaveFront&™ is a digital mapping technology that identifies the various aberrations of the cornea. Once an eye is scanned with WaveFront&™ technology, a precise picture of the corneal surface is made. This will help identify the various problems and areas of the cornea to be reshaped.

The Benefits of WaveFront&™

The benefits of getting Houston LASIK surgery with WaveFront&™ technology are many. First of all, the LASIK surgery will be entirely guided by computer using that extremely precise digital map. That means less possibility of human error and even greater precision that possible before.

The biggest benefit, however, is the fact that WaveFront&™ allows us to identify and treat higher order aberrations. While traditional LASIK has been able to target myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism well, other vision issues such as halos, glare, starbursts, and contrast sensitivity are not as easily treated. With WaveFront&™ LASIK technology, however, we are able to help treat those matters given the extreme detail of the corneal map.

iLASIK and You

We take things once step further here in order to enhance the overall convenience, comfort, and quality of vision for our patients. That’s why we’re proud to offer iLASIK, the most advanced form of custom LASIK surgery.

iLASIK uses the WaveFront&™ corneal map, but it also eliminates the need for the microkeratome during LASIK. This was an instrument used to create the corneal flap for the laser to reshape the cornea. Now, a special laser can be used to create this flap, meaning even less possibility for error and greater precision when performing the entire surgery.
